Charlotte Van Passen
Charlotte Van Passen (born in 1989) started to play the violin at the age of 5. Only at 16 did she discover the trombone. After studying in Brussels, Amsterdam, Lyon and Liège; she joined the “Flanders Symphony Orchestra” in 2014, where she stayed until 2020. She moved to London in 2017 where she currently freelances with orchestras like the Royal Opera House , London Philharmonic Orchestra , London Symphony Orchestra , Royal Philharmic Orchestra etc.
Charlotte also plays with period orchestras such as the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and Orchestre des Champs-Elysées , playing music from the 18th to the 20th century; and with emsemble I nAlto , exploring the instrumental and vocal repertoire of the renaissance and baroque era.
In 2012 Charlotte won the first price and the Conn-Selmer price during the alto trombone competition in Paris, organisedby the International Trombone Association , in 2015 she got selected to represent her conservatoire in the Classic Academy organised by the Orchestre Philharmonique de Liège and in 2016 she qualified for the final of the International Sackbut Competition organised by Les Saqueboutiers in Toulouse.
Charlotte is passionate about teaching the trombone and sackbut to all ages and abilities, from primary school children to retired enthusiasts – as well as the up and coming talents at the Royal Academy of Music ’s Junior department.
